Irish Repertory of Chicago's touring Beckett productions, available again beginning autumn, 2018.

GreatWorks began life as the educational outreach arm of Irish Repertory of Chicago, and for autumn, 2018, we'll be offering again Irish Rep's popular program of touring Samuel Beckett productions, the same package of shows that wowed critics across the country throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

The program begins with PLAY, as a roving spotlight forces a man, his wife, and his lover, all of them encased in urns, to try and come up with the thing that the light is looking for - whatever that thing is. We then move to FOOTFALLS, where a ghost of a woman paces the same stretch of floor, night after night, talking to her off-stage mother, "revolving it all" as she comes to terms with a life that was never fully led.

And the program concludes with KRAPP'S LAST TAPE, as 69-year-old Krapp settles in to listen to his tape recorded journal entry from 30 years before, a year when he said "farewell to love" in favor of a life dedicated solely to his work. Seeing the older man listening to his younger self provides an exquisite blend of comedy and pathos, and Matt O'Brien's performance as Krapp has been hailed by critics as one of the signature performances of the role.
